Porco Rosso is rated #2 in Anime Insiders top fifty anime. This surprised me. I had seen it at the store before. But never really thought much of it. I just though it was another goofy/dumb anime. Well I've been reading up on it after reading AI's blurb on it. It sounds pretty interesting. I think I'm going to have to check it out. I would recommend you folks check it out. Please it you have seen it. Leave a comment. I'm interested in learning more about it.

I can't leave much of a review. I don't have the vocabuary to review Miyazaki pictures. But my son (13) asking during the film "Planes didn't ever really look like that, right?"
I said, "Um, well, yeah--they kinda did."
For several months since then, he's devoured every seaplane/Curtiss Cup coffee table book he could get his hands on. He's becoming a real aero-pulp-head. Based on the magic in this movie (and genetics). It tears your heart out, man, then replaces it with something better.
Brilliant picture.

Cool! thanks for the info. I to as a lad was fasinated by old aircraft. WWII stuff was my vice.
First of all, good work making sure I checked in. I've been in a funk lately, and I've been having trouble doing anything.
Secondly, I'm glad you got some use out of that Anime Insider. I too checked out their top list. I liked a lot, and hated a lot. I did think it was telling that 80% of the people with top 5 lists featured a Miyazaki film.
Thirdly, Porco Rosso is clumsy and ridiculous. It doesn't have the heart felt rawness of Spirited Away, or the epic feel of Naussica. But it certainly does have some amazing old planes! And a story that is right up your alley. I have it if you want to borrow it. In fact, I believe I have all of Miyazaki's stuff except Princess Mononoke.
Lastly, even though you'll probably hate it, we should watch Castle of Cagliostro sometime. It is my favorite Miyazaki, AND a Lupin the Third movie.
Are you regretting my long winded log in?
"Are you regretting my long winded log in?"
No not at all. I would definitely like to check out Porco Rosso. So being you have it. I'll have to borrow it to check it out for my self.
As for Lupin, my roomate hates it. I dont have a firm opinion about it. I could see my self liking and hating it. But I do remember watching a couple episodes of a lupin series late at late. (It seems like he was cursed with being a werewolf, but maybe I'm wrong.) I remember liking that. so we'll see.
There may have been an episode where he was a werewolf. I don't recal that off the top of my head, but it wouldn't surprise me. The oldest tv show was goofy like that. Kinda a cross between James Bond and Scooby Doo.
For the record, I LOVE Lupin the Third. Love, love, love!
