Cobra In 08

So I changed the theme a little. Thought I should throw up a post while I'm at it. Watching Bill Maher I'm starting to get sick of politics. So I propose this.

Special Counter-terrorism Group Delta 7


Well if I don't got back luck I ain't got no luck at all. Well I got the group back together and back on track. We started leveling up all the characters. Pooled in together to get some pizza. Then I got a phone call. My father called and needed some help with a project. So I had to roll out to help him. My roommate took the helm in leveling up everybodies character. I was gone longer than I had expected. So by the time I got back the characters were taken care of. So we just called it a day. So next week Angola begins.

Out of control?


Well this week there was no game. Yeah I know. I was disappointed too. Out of the six players, one had a family function/road trip, one told me they weren't going to make it (although I had forgot that and was miffed at this individual.), one had something else going on but declined to inform me (Hey why would the host/GM need to know? Silly monkey.), one flaked completely, the last two showed up. (One of which was my roommate, so he damn well better have shown up. I know he doesn't have anything better to do.)

Anyways enough of my bitchin. You might wonder why I have a picture of Deadshot at the top of the page. Simple. Looking at the past history of the team. (which is a little more sorted than my post may let on.) I have come to the conclusion that they are getting damn near to being the suicide squad. Not that they are making amens for past discretion's. But that they are damn near out of control. Walking the razors edge. And every once and a while just saying F' yeah and jumping over. Maybe their more like the newest incarnation of the Secret Six. Kinda good, kinda bad. Maybe grey's a better word for it? No, no self serving. Realistically this is my fault for letting them get away with the BS. I'm hoping even those with the blood thirsty kung-fu grip action will find a little bit of morality. As the next set of adventures in Angola will involve plays on (so to speak) morality. Hopefully getting the characters to question if what they are doing is right? What their being asked to do is right? Do they try to do whats right? Do they close them selves off to the madness? Or do they embrace it? Charging into the abyss.

So your asking your self what the hell does Deadshot have to do with any of this? Well hes my favorite character from the suicide squad, and secret six. Maybe if things go south. I can just turn it into a suicide squad game. Yeah, that's the ticket. Explosive Bracelets For Every One!

Special Counter-terrorist Group Delta 6

This was the final mission for the players in Nam. Their mission was to trek deep into Northern Vietnam. Then ambush a train carrying tanks to reinforce an NVA position. The characters were joined by an anti-tank expert. his name is Steve Ithmus. He brought with him his own missile system. Which Leroy correctly identified as a custom/improved version of the Russian AT-4 Spigot anti-tank missile. The team was dropped off in Northern Vietnam by helicopter. Then marched to the target area. Which is a train track that intersects with a highway (using that term loosely). Shortly into their journey they encountered a couple of mountain tribesmen. Which miss took the team as NVA and fired on them. The players returned fire (including Carlos throwing the infamous pocket watch.) and threw a grenade taking out the tribesmen. Carlos searched the bodies. He left the weapons and ammo. Taking a pocket watch he found. (and a foot Troy cut off the dead tribesman for Carlos to throw.) Starting his quest to gather mundane items to throw and hit people with. Anyways The characters moved on encountering a peckary several times. With carlos throwing the foot at it. Soon after the characters made camp for the night. They had no encounters that night or the rest of the way to the target area. Once they arrived they found four soldiers guarding the area. These guards were quickly dispatched by silenced submachinegun and rifle fire. They then prepped the area for the arrival of the train. They set up C4 under the tracks. Then claymores facing the train. Along with Steve setting up a position to fire on the train with his missile system. The characters waited til the third car of the four car train was over the C4. The explosion tipped over the tank on the third car. It also knocked the front end of the tank of the four car off. The tank on the second car, the truck on the first car, and the engine were fine. NVA were swarming over the cars and train. So the team detonated the claymores. This took about half the enemy out. Steve Slammed the tank on the last car with an anti-tank missile. He quickly began reloading the missile system. Troy tossed a grenade in to the cab of the engine taking a couple soldiers. The rest of the enemy was quickly dispatched by the rest of the team. Then the tank on the second car. Its turret started turning toward Steve. He quickly hit it with a missile. Leroy and Carlos, climbed up on it and threw in grenades finishing off any life left in it. A guy popped up in the truck in front of them on the first car. Troy struck him down. They had dispatched the train. Steve took out the truck and the engine with his last missiles. They left the target area and headed back to their LZ to be picked up. They encountered two farmers/villagers walking down a path. They saw the team. And as not to let their position to be given away. They eliminated them post haste. (Which is short hand for Leroy kicked one in the nuts. Then Troy cut the others arm off. Then stabbed and finished off the groin victim.) They then continued on. They once again encountered more farmers. But this time remained hidden. Therefore let the farmers pass with out incident. The characters moved till night and set up camp. They set up watches like normal. Good thing. For that night an NVA column passed by closely. The characters decided to ambush the column. Leroy, Troy, and Kane. Threw grenades. Well Leroy, Troy did. Kane Dropped his. (Rolled a one which is a critical failure in my games) So they blew up the majority of the column. Kane blew up several of them. Then the NVA survivors sprayed the jungle with machine gun fire and grenades. But were quickly subdued when Troy finished them off with a grenade. They pulled up camp and kept moved to the LZ. They waited their and were picked up. Returning once again to base.

This is the last adventure the group will have in the Nam era. They are now moving on to 1976. As SAD operators for the CIA in Angola. I have asked the players to write a short history of what they did between Nam and Angola. Did they stay in the military? Become mercs? Get a normal job? Drop out of society? Join a martial arts school? It doesn't have to be anything long. But to give me at least a paragraph. But to feel free to write more. With their permission I would like to post them here. We'll see what happens. To those reading this. Posting it here is not mandatory so if you don't want me to that's fine. But its kind of been the game log so I thought it would fit.

(100 nerd points to whoever can tell me who Steve Istmus will turn out to be when they meet him again in the future.)

Special Counter-terrorist Group Delta 3


Well we made characters yesterday. It took the whole session/afternoon to do it. Which doesn't surprise me. As I have been telling people. Palladium games, especially Ninjas and Super Spies creating characters is a bit involved. But now we have that out of the way. So its smooth sailing from here. Like I told them now that is over we can focus on the game. One of the group couldn't show up. Due to prior commitments. I'm hoping to get his character squared away this week. Then hopefully play Sunday. Things are looking good! Cant wait to get rolling!

Special Counter-terrorist Group Delta 2

This Sunday will be the first session of the Special Counter-terrorism Group Delta. It will start at the beginning. With the characters members of a Ranger LRRP team in Vietnam. I cant wait. I've been preping little stuff all week. I've made up a random encounter table for the jungle. Set down a basic plot. I've made maps of important locations. I even have LRRP and VC minatures. To place on the maps so people can better understand the firefight or situation. I'm really excited about it. My primary concern is making characters. But hopefully we will get to some action as well.

Special Counter-terrorist Group Delta


This is the campaign blurb. That I sent my players, describing the game. I cant wait to play But I have to wait till next weekend. Being that I'm in a wedding this weekend. I'm getting pumped up to play. I cant hardly wait.


You will be members of the GI Joe team. (Otherwise known as Special Counter-terrorist Group Delta) Notice I said will be. You will start off as an army ranger LRRP team in Vietnam. (For those of you familiar think of Stalker, Tommy (Storm Shadow), and Snake Eyes in Nam.) In the year of 1973. For those of you not familiar with Rangers and LRRP teams here are some links. You will complete a mission or two. Then you will flash forward, to 1976. And two levels. (so from level 1 to 3rd) Where you are SAD operators for the CIA in Angola. Which is embroiled in civil war. Besides being engaged in civil war. It is also a battle of proxies with super powers. The predominate players are the UNITA which is supported by the United States and South Africa. MLPA meanwhile is supported by Cuba and the soviet union. The Cubans even had troops on the ground. Anyways theres links on the subjects. You will have a mission or two here. Then time will advance to 1983. (and another 2 levels. So from 3rd level to 5th) Where you will be recruited to the GI Joe team. Thus starting the current time line.


This game will be using Ninjas and Super Spies (palladium megaversal) as the game system. Some additional material on mercs/spec ops from one of the rifters will used as well.

Real American Heros? Pt 2

Well the joe team reassembled at base after the mission. It was there that they learned that Cobra had stolen a tank of gas. Mainframe speculated that with the gem that cobra had stolen from the dig site. Along with the gas that they were building a giant chemical laser. They needed one more component. A chemical. This chemical is only made in two places in the world. So the GI Joe force was split. They players team went to one site. While the other site was guarded by the other half of the team (NPC's). The players team was joined by two new members. HMO the medic, and Beans (Correction his name was Die Hard) the blade specialist. They were transported to the chemical plant. They set up positions with the armadillo tanks they were equipped with and waited. It wasn't long till cobra struck. Two trouble bubbles quickly run through dropping stuff in the chemical plant. They then turned around and over loud speakers. Told the joe team they could either attack cobra or defuse the bombs they just dropped in the maze of pipes and tank that is the chemical plant. The joes demo expert, Diablo went about defusing the bombs as the flight pods left. Then they heard helicopters in the distance. Two fangs and a hind appeared. So soon as Diablo diffused the last bomb they attacked the choppers. Diablo pitched a grenade in to the open cockpit of the fang. Destroying it. Beans (Die Hard)climbing the building. Jumped on to the skid of the other fang. Climbed up and killed the pilot taking over the fang. He then turned it on the hind. Destroying it. The flight pods returned. To be gunned down by the armadillo tanks. They had stopped cobra dead in it tracks.
It was then they received a emergency radio call. The other team had not been successful. Cobra had got the gas. But Scarlett had he the cobras with a homing device. So the players joe team was sent after them.
Cobra had gone to mexico. Where they had set up base in some ancient Aztec step pyramids. The center largest one had the laser mounted to it. On the ground were ASP's and HISS tanks guarding it. The joes came in with a VAMP 2 jeep, and a Dragon fly helicopter. They quickly dispatched the tanks and ASP's. But discovered the main pyramid had a force field around it. They shot a missile at one of the other pyramids and disabled a generator. Luckily doing away with the force fields generator. Which let them at the main pyramid. Diablo used explosives to destroy the laser. Thus saving the day.

Real American Heros?



Well now I went and did it. This week end I was trying to figure out what I want to do for this mondays game. As I had talked about earlier, in this blog. The Red Dawn using the Fuzion system was one of the front runners. Then I was cruising the Internet sunday. I had a brain storm. Ok a light drizzle but go with it. GI Joe. I had all the stats for the weapons of the time period. That being 1982-1986. The Red Dawn campaign takes place in 1984. I figured I could fake the stats for vehicles. Basing them off real vehicles. Well I prepared a little something if the players were interested.

So I got to the game shop and offered the players a choice. Red Dawn or GI Joe. Well the players surprised me and unanimously voted for GI Joe. Although the group was missing some people. I think they probably would have voted for i too. So we played. It was fairly successful. Had to look a couple things up. As its been a looonngg time since I ran a fuzion game. But it went ok. It also showed me some things I was missing from my red dawn game. (I guess now my GI Joe game)

The players created these characters. "Diablo" a firefly style demolitions expert. "Stingray" a heavy machine gun infantryman. Lastly "Puma" a scout and tracker.The players started off tracing possible Cobra transmissions from the rain forest in Brazil. They were given the choice of boats or air transport. They went with boats. Everyone was assigned a Devilfish. They first encountered on their journey upriver. Barrels chained together. Strung across the river. They avoided these barrels. Thus never messing with them. But they assumed (and correctly) they were make shift mines. They later on sighted and engaged Cobra infantry. Which they blew up with rockets. One of them did take some minor damage in the exchange. They traveled closer to the target and encountered a Cobra Water Moccasin. Which they battled. They took it out, but not before it took out Diablo's Devilfish. They arrived at the closest point to the signal on the river. From here they went inland. They encountered a cobra patrol. Which Stingray quickly quelled on his own. Mowing them down with his M-60. They then approached the area from where the signal came. They snuck up close, undetected. They saw a cobra surveillance port. This guarded and entrance in to ancient ruins. To the side in the clearing was several Fang helicopters. Diablo stealthily circled to the helicopters and set a demo charge. While he did that. Puma took out a guard by throwing a knife at his head. Then they positioned them selves to engage the rest of the guards manning the surveillance port. Diablo blew up the choppers. They the others gunned down the rest of the guards. They then took and turned the guns on the port to the ruins. And proceeded to destroy the guards coming out. It was then that they saw a fang helicopter rising out of the ruins. Strapped to the bottom was a huge green gem. Bigger than any of them had seen. They trying to shoot it down. But were unable. As the fang got away. Diablo threw a couple of grenades over the walls of the ruins. It was shortly after this two cobras gave them selves up. Which they took into custody. One last cobra remained. Taking pot shots at them. Though teamwork they cornered and killed the last cobra. They then called a helicopter to gather the prisoners and boats. Returning back to base.
